Maintaining Moisture

Nourishing Vibrant Skin From The Inside Out... Step 1 in 8 Steps to Radiant Skin

In our last blog posts, we discussed how Nutrition and Exercise have a dramatic impact on our skin's health and appearance.

So now, in addition to eating right and staying active, let's look at a few ways we can maintain the moisture in our skin by first getting to know a little about Lipids.

Dr. Mehmet Oz, MD stated that, "Lipids are essential building blocks found in skin's outermost layer, known as the stratum corneum. These lipids form layers around and in between skin cells, creating a barrier that keeps natural moisture intact and prevents it from escaping."

Over exposure to sun, harsh weather and dehydration strips moisture away from the skin's natural lipid layer and robs your skin of the moisture it has stored in the layers.

Here are several tips to be sure your skin gets the best TLC.

1. Humidity

Our skin needs more than 30% humidity to stay sufficiently moisturized.  If you live in a dry climate, try using a humidifier in your home. Or maybe simmer a pot of water on the stove, or a crock pot of water on low heat (without a lid) during the day should give adequate humidity to your environment.

2.  Keep it Cool

Did you know that hot water and soaps instantly rob moisture from your skin? (That's hard for me to accept because I love them both! ) So, like me, if you must have a hot soak or shower, keep it short and lukewarm. Try using natural soaps (without foaming agents and chemicals that strip your natural moisture.)

3. Lock in Moisture

Always use a moisturizer! Because, dehydration causes our skin to become dry and cracked, allowing access for bacteria to grow, and causing skin irritation and infection. Our Flawless Facial Restore and Facial Restore for Men are the perfect face and body moisturizers....with richly hydrating emollients that restore dry, chapped, trouble skin and deeply replenishing oils and butters whipped into a unique nourishing formula.
